Discuss how Fleischman tells us what Curtis's
ethnicity is (page 43). "field slave" & "share-cropper"

In the course of the novel, a homeless young man
named Royce comes to live in the garden. Talk about Royce and his involvement
with other characters. (He is discussed more in future chapters so it is
important to make special note of him at this point).
